Skattershooting (4/29/04)

Skattershooting while wondering whatever became
of Rudy from the Cosby Show:
-
Miami Dolphin running back Ricky Williams has
cut off his dread locks. Life will never be the same.
-
Where do you get a license to fly a blimp?
-
Drew Pearson, the former Cowboys receiver who
was on The Ticket the other day, said he made $14,500 his rookie
year.
-
The most amazing thing Pearson said was that when
Harvey Martin was a rookie he worked at NorthPark Mall in the off season
as a shoe salesman to earn extra money
-
I liked 21 Grams but this concept of shooting
a film in non-sequential order (i.e. Pulp Fiction, Memento) is getting
a little old.
-
What percentage of Dallas residents pay their
water bill online? That would be 3%
-
Tony Dorsett just turned 50.
-
The House of Sand and Fog is pretty good.
-
I love the way Carole Keeton Strayhorn gives Rick
Perry hell
-
In a movie, it seems like whenever a person goes
to the refrigerator to find some leftovers, there is always a chinese food
takeout carton in there.
-
The 97 year old woman that was arrested by Highland
Park police because she had an outstanding traffic ticket warrant gives
rise to an interesting question: Should police be allowed to use their
discretion in such a situation? At first blush the answer is "yes" but
what criteria should they use in deciding to not execute an arrest warrant?
Age? Health? Status in the community? Wealth? Sex? Race? If the arrest
had been of a 22 year old black male in Oak Cliff for the same thing, would
anyone care? What's the difference?
-
McDonald's CEO died the other day. However, it
struck me a bit odd to see the McDonald's in Decatur flying the American
flag at half staff
-
Remember the two kids that were dumped in the
median on Jacksboro Highway. The alleged culprits, Christy Radacy and Sari
Muhanna, have jumped bond and are believed to be out of the country.
-
Bradley McGehee, 22, was an All State Baseball
player at Belton High School. He fell
to his death last weekend when he plunged 100 feet over a cliff
overlooking the Brazos River in Waco "when a rock ledge he was sitting
on broke." Five days later, another man died in the same
manner.
-
The chick from the group The Black Eyed Peas (I
saw them on VH1 doing that "Hey Mama" song) is hot.
-
I have a wife that actually liked Kill Bill
Vol. I and Kill Bill Vol. 2.
-
Yeah, some people are disappointed in the Dallas
Mavericks but how soon we forget that in in 1998 they finished 20-62
-
I finally saw Schindler's List the other
day. It was very, very good but after years of hearing all the hype, I
was expecting more.
-
A few years ago you would often hear of Nazi war
criminals being caught and put on trial. I suppose that almost all of them,
if not all, are now dead.
-
It seems that every radio talk show hosts gets
their material off The Drudge Report.
-
The Nightline episode that simply showed a photo
of every serviceman that died in Iraq should be required viewing. I stumbled
upon it and couldn't stop watching. The dead are so very young.
-
Most business insurance policies have a dollar
limit that applies "per occurrence". The lease holder on the World Trade
Center had a $3.5 billion policy per occurrence. So, were the two planes
flying into the buildings on 9/11 one "occurrence" or two? The jury ruled
on October 28th that it was only one occurrence so the leaseholder will
collect $3.5 billion and not $7 billion.
-
I'm not much of a NASCAR fan but this business
of finishing a race under the yellow caution flag (see Jeff Gordon's win
last week in Talladega) has got to end.
-
It was quite the contrast last week: Former NFL
star Pat Tillman, who walked away from millions, is killed in the Afghanistan
while Eli Manning told the San Diego Chargers that he wouldn't play for
them even if they picked him number one in the draft and showered him with
cash.
-
"Confident about winning Iowa and New Hamphire
next month, Howard Dean is already setting his sights on the rest of the
nation" - Headline in Time Magazine from last December
-
I can never watch Channel 8 weatherman Troy Dungan
and not think about how completely confused he was when the tornado hit
downtown Fort Worth four years ago and he was exposed live on the air.
-
Roger Clemens, who retired and then quickly unretired
to become a Houston Astro, is playing lights out. He is 5-0 with an amazing
ERA of 1.95. Classic Sports recently aired his 20 strike out game
against Seattle which occurred in 1986 (that's 18 years ago!).
-
You want to see a transcript of what happened
on CNN when 9/11 was taking place? See http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0109/11/bn.01.html
-
Speaking of NASCAR, do you really think the best
drivers are in the sport? I mean, certainly the best basketball players
and football players are found because kids play those sports and the cream
rises to the top. But who gets to grow up driving a NASCAR?
-
The Texas lottery is twelve years old.
-
I can't believe the Dallas Cowboys chose Fair
Park as their #1 site to build their new stadium. By the way, doesn't Texas
Stadium look old?
-
The School of Rock was mildly funny.
-
Old cliché I hate: "Hey, [generic man],
I'd like to introduce you to Bob" "Hi, Bob, I've heard so much about you"
To which Bob replies: "It's all lies"
-
Other old cliché I hate: Friends who see
each other in passing in a restaurant and jokingly ask, "Are you buying?"
-
I think it is odd that the Pentagon bans pics
of the coffins of dead soldiers returning from the war. Actually the policy
was put in place by Bust #1, rescinded by Clinton, and then put back in
place by Bush #2
-
Did you see that the Southlake police bought two
Segway Scooters at $5,000 a piece? Do you think they've got too much money
laying around?
-
On June 12th, it will be the 10 year anniversary
of the murder or Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman
-
One of UT’s most famous football games was its
win over Nebraska in the first Big 12 Championship game. The key play was
a fourth and inches PASS completed by James Brown with 2 ½ minutes
left. The game was shown on ESPN Classic the other day and I was stunned
to see the two running backs in the backfield on the play that served as
decoys were Ricky Williams AND Priest Holmes.
-
Priest Holmes, who has turned out to be a great
running back in the NFL, was not drafted coming out of college
-
Did you see that drum-beating-Ranger-season-ticket-holder
“Zonk” has given up his season tickets? He said that he’s 71 years old
and the round trip from Richardson for every game had become too much.
-
Did you also see the story about the Dallas Assistant
DA who was demoted and then was found dead in his apartment. Suicide is
suspected but no one knows the reason why.
-
The more I watch The Bachelor (yes, I watch The
Bachelor) the more I think the whole thing is rigged.
